If I want to be nostalgic for my teenage years, I make these sausage bites. They are SUPER simple and only require 3 ingredients. My mom used to make them anytime we had a crowd gathering for breakfast or as appetizers. Of course you can zhuzh them up by adding different kinds of cheese or spices, but the original is pretty great!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage

  • 1 block cream cheese, leave out at room temperature to soften

  • 2 packages crescent rolls (the kind that come premade in a biscuit can)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

  2. Brown and drain the sausage, then return it to the warm pan.

  3. Add cream cheese in slices or blobs and mix to incorporate with the browned sausage.

  4. Butter/grease/spray an 11x13 inch pan.

  5. Roll out one can of crescent rolls into the bottom of the pan, pinching the seams together, and bake 10 minutes. We just want to partially bake the bottom.

  6. Place the sausage and cream cheese mixture over the bottom baked crescent rolls. It works well to drop flattened portions with a spatula onto the pastry rather than spread the mixture.

  7. Once the mixture is mostly even across the pastry, top with the second can of pastry. Pinch and stretch to make it cover the top of the sausage mixture well.

  8. Bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven once the top is golden.

  9. Slice into squares once they have cooled a few minutes - larger for single servings / smaller for appetizer portions.

Enjoy!
